DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE & ENGINEERING

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at STIST offers a 4 years Bachelor degree program leading to the award of B.Tech Degree in Computer Science and Engineering. The curriculum balances the practical and theoretical aspects of Computer Science and Engineering. Computer Science is the study of computer systems that includes the architecture of computer, development of computer software, information processing, Computer application, algorithmic problem solving and the mathematical foundations of the discipline. Students learn concepts and skills needed for designing, programming, and applying computer systems while also learning the theoretical and mathematical foundations of computer science. The department has three Computer Laboratories, all of which are, well equipped with latest computers and peripherals. Programming laboratory includes facility to learn languages like C, C++, and JAVA. Our Data Structures laboratory is well equipped and students get trained in implementing various data structures using C,C++ and Java.
Computer science graduates are recruited in large numbers by technology and financial firms. Career opportunities include developing software systems for a diverse range of applications such as user interfaces: networks; databases; forecasting; World Wide Web support, medical communications, satellite and embedded systems. Many get employment in telecommunication & financial industries. The explosive growth of the internet provides numerous jobs for those familiar with internet technologies. The computer graduates can pursue advanced degrees in fields like law business, medicine, finance, engineering, and other professions requiring strong technical knowledge and problem solving skills.
The department tries to create an intellectually stimulating learning environment and encourages mentoring of the students by its competent faculty members. Several of its faculty members have rich industrial experience and this helps the students get the right balance of theory and practice.
